This volume focuses on the role of thermal establishments with mineral-medicinal waters across different territories of the Roman Empire. It explores their integration with the landscape and the adequacy of constructions aimed at providing greater comfort to those who sought the healing properties of these waters. But what role did these sites play in each province? Why was such considerable eff ort devoted to the construction of these thermal complexes during the Roman period? What elements can reveal the distinctive features of their construction based on the characteristics of these waters?
These and other questions will be examined through the study of different thermal sites featured in this monograph, tracing the origins of thermalism in Roman times. Our goal is to delve into the beginnings of these practices, generate content, and promote awareness of an extremely fragile archaeological and cultural heritage that forms an integral part of the history and development of many Mediterranean regions.
The 4th Conference on Ancient Thermalism will take place in Vichy (France) in May 2025. For more info, visit the website : www.healingspasinantiquity.es
