Book launch ‘Sixty-Six Toilets and Urinals in the Ancient City of Rome’

On 16 October 2024, the volume ‘Sixty-Six Toilets and Urinals in the Ancient City of Rome‘ (BABESCH Supplements 48), edited by Gemma Jansen, Ann Olga Koloski-Ostrow and Richard Neudecker will be officially presented during a hybrid event in the Royal Netherlands Institute in Rome (KNIR), at 17.00h CET.

The book presents the research of 34 scholars who have been documenting and examining toilets and urinals in the capital of the Roman Empire. Some of the evidence is presented here for the very first time. Other broad themes that the book touches upon, include hygiene, water supply and waste water drainage, design and architecure and the cultural context.
