Pl.: ambulacra

Monumental corridor in large thermae, mainly found in the baths of North Africa or Asia Minor. These large halls, straight, U- or H-shaped in plan, often had several niches to lodge statues. Besides being used for walks (ambulatio), these could have served a wide variety of functions (meetings, physical exercise, etc.).
