Pl.: exedrae

An extension of the room, often semicircular in shape, that often contained benches or niches for statues. Exedrae could be used for a variety of purposes, including as libraries or lecture halls. In baths, they are often found in connection to the palaestra or to the perimeter walls (of the thermae).
