Pl.: tubi fittili

Cylindrical or bottle-shaped ceramic building material used to construct walls and especially vaults. They were open at both ends, but wide at the bottom and narrow at the top so that they could fit into each other. The oldest examples date from the 3^rd century BC, but they were mainly used from the 2^nd century AD onwards. Often found in North Africa.
